<h1>Tropical Storm Narda</h1><p>After forming last weekend, Narda is feeling the effects of cooler waters. The storm has weakened to a tropical storm and will continue to disintegrate into a depression as soon as Monday.</p><p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/09/Screenshot 2025-09-28 050858-1759057749602.jpg"></p><p>Large swells and strong currents could continue to reach the Mexico coast as the system pulls away. <p style="margin: 0in; margin-bottom: .0001pt;"><span style="font-size: 13.5pt; color: #454545;">Rob grew up in South Florida, where daily afternoon storms and hurricanes piqued his interest in meteorology early on. That interest was fostered by his teachers and his father, who one time brought him onto the roof of their home to watch a funnel cloud move through the Everglades several miles away. Years of filmmaking and tv production in high school gradually pushed him toward broadcast meteorology at Florida State University, where he joined and eventually led the student run daily weather show. After graduating with a Bachelors of Science in Meteorology, he began his career at KESQ in Palm Springs, California before heading to KFSN in Fresno and WLOS in Asheville, North Carolina. He has covered a diverse array of extreme weather events, including haboobs and flash flooding in the desert, extreme snow in the Sierra, hurricanes, and Appalachian ice storms. He also enjoys telling stories and reporting about weather issues.

<p>A late season surge of monsoonal moisture has been impacting the Southwest this week. An upper-level low pressure system has been shifting from California into the Four Corners, pulling in moisture from the Pacific. This fueled intense rain and severe storms in Arizona, in particular on Friday, that turned deadly in Globe. </p><div class="twitter-tweet" style="display: flex; justify-content: center" data-twitt-post-id="1972028472017973737" src="https://x.com/WeatherNation/status/1972028472017973737"></div><p></p><p>This weekend, as the trough moves east and starts to really tap into Narda's moisture, the heaviest rainfall will transition into New Mexico and West Texas. <img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/09/Screenshot 2025-09-28 060948-1759061730339.png">Morning storms could provide plenty of moisture and a chance for flooding, but storms become more intense and widespread by Sunday afternoon and evening. As a trough moves in from the Pacific on Monday, moisture from the tropics will get cut-off to the region, leading to fewer and less intense storms on Monday.</p><video src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/09/2025-09-28 06-16-28-1759061816512.mp4" controls="true" width="100%"></video><p>Tropical moisture in a desert sounds hard to do, but it is often a bad mixture. Flash flooding will be possible in areas of southeast Arizona, picking up another 0.5-1" of rain over the coming days. The most likely areas are highlighted in darker green on the Weather Prediction Center's Excessive Rainfall Outlook.</p><p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/09/Screenshot 2025-09-28 061545-1759061753004.png">This could help a lackluster monsoon season look better. It will be interesting to see how the drought monitor looks in a week. For now, extreme to exceptional levels of drought are in place.</p><p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/09/Screenshot 2025-09-25 132552-1758828359744.png"></p>

Deadly Flash Flooding Hits the Southwest, More Rain Sunday

<p>The National Hurricane Center is still expecting Tropical Depression Nine to become Tropical Storm Imelda later today. Tropical Storm Watches and Warnings have been issued for parts of the Bahamas and the east coast of Florida. Over the last 24 hours, models have trended toward a solution that keeps the core of the storm offshore, but that's not to say the impacts will avoid the southeast. <img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/09/Screenshot 2025-09-28 040932-1759054179694.jpg"></p><p>The latest forecast cone from the National Hurricane Center shows this system slowing down considerably as it approaches the coast of the Carolinas Monday into Tuesday. Given how sensitive this forecast is to multiple moving parts, now's not the time to get complacent! Don't let your guard down as coastal flooding and rip currents are likely.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/09/Screenshot 2025-09-28 040959-1759054211162.jpg"></p><p>So what does this mean for the United States? If you live anywhere from Northeast Florida, Georgia, and the Carolinas you might want to start preparing for the potential for tropical impacts this week. Starting now, you should consider going over your hurricane kit and making sure you have things in the event we are looking at a tropical storm or hurricane moving towards the coast next week. This includes gassing up the car, making a grocery or hardware store trip, etc. Take time this weekend to clear your gutters and take other measures to prepare your property for flooding, which could be a significant threat.</p><h1>Wind Impacts</h1><p>Tropical storm watches have been issued for the east coast of Florida with potentially tropical storm-force winds (39-73 mph) between Jupiter and Flagler Beach. Tropical storm warnings are in effect for many Bahamian Islands as tropical storm-force winds are expected in the next 48 hours. </p><p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/09/Screenshot 2025-09-27 090438-1758985490793.png"></p><h1>Flood Potential</h1><p>The more concerning threat to keep an eye on will be the heavy rain and flooding. As we look into next week, multiple inches of rain could be falling over already saturated soils from this weekend's stalled front. <img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/09/Screenshot 2025-09-28 041102-1759054271021.jpg">The Weather Prediction Center is already highlighting the chance for scattered flash flooding on Monday and Tuesday, with higher threat levels likely to be issued as confidence in the forecast increases.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/09/Screenshot 2025-09-28 041127-1759054305406.jpg"><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/09/Screenshot 2025-09-28 041134-1759054310812.jpg">If you live in or near a flood zone in these dark green areas, consider your options for seeking higher ground or heading somewhere else to ride out the storm.</p>

Tropical Depression 9 Expected to Become Imelda Today

<p>Tropical activity in the Atlantic has increased significantly over the last week. We're now tracking two systems, Tropical Depression Nine and Humberto. On Saturday, Humberto reached Category 5 status, with sustained winds topping out at 160 mph! Since then, it has backed off to 155 mph winds, making it a category 4 storm but no less impressive. This is what it looked like late Saturday night:</p><h1><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/09/Screenshot 2025-09-27 204205-1759027338210.png">Humberto</h1><p style="text-align: start"><strong>Humberto </strong>was named last Wednesday afternoon and gained hurricane status early Friday morning. This is the first time in nearly 100 years that we have had 2 Category 5 hurricanes in back-to-back seasons! Humberto won't impact the U.S. directly, but if you have a trip to Bermuda next week, keep a close eye on this hurricane as impacts look likely!</p><p style="text-align: start"><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/09/Screenshot 2025-09-27 204400-1759027460641.png">We are now past the climatological peak of Atlantic Hurricane Season, but still have a ways to go for the season.</p><p style="text-align: start"><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/09/Screenshot 2025-09-24 063435-1758717278455.png"></p><p style="text-align: start">September is historically the peak of hurricane season, and ocean conditions remain favorable for additional development. Before joining the WeatherNation team, she previously worked as the Morning Meteorologist at KCAU-TV in Sioux City, Iowa and at WMBD-TV in Peoria, IL. She recently was part of a National Edward R. Helene's eyewall passed about 10 miles west-southwest of Perry, Florida at 11:10 p.m. ET on Florida's Gulf Coast. In the 2024 Atlantic Hurricane Season, Helene was one of five landfalling storms along the Gulf coast, including three in Florida.</p><p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/09/Screenshot 2025-09-24 135342-1758743646080.png"></p><div data-youtube-video=""><iframe width="640" height="480" allowfullscreen="false" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/5uqc6I6wcXM" start="0"></iframe></div><p>The remnants of Helene brought catastrophic flooding, which prompted a record 34 Flash Flood Emergencies across portions of Appalachia and Mid-South. Including the first ever for the city of Atlanta, GA after 11" of rain. The highest total from the storm topped out above 30" in North Carolina. A precursor event saturated the soils ahead of Helene. The USGS documented that the heavy rain on top of the impacted soils prompted more than 2000 landslides. 63 stream and river gauges exceeded their record flood levels during Helene. 2,700+ water rescues were documented, about half from storm surge and half from fresh water flooding.</p><p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2024/09/Screenshot 2024-09-27 160234-1727474573331.jpg"><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/09/Screenshot 2025-09-24 140622-1758744396604.png">According to <a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="http://poweroutage.us">poweroutage.us</a>, a total of 7.4 million customers lost power at some point during Helene. Below, you can see the counties impacted at the height of the storm.</p><p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2024/10/power outages tue am-1727778005216.jpg">According to the National Hurricane Center Storm Surge Unit, preliminary post-landfall storm surge heights for the Big Bend region of Florida near Keaton Beach, Steinhatchee, and Horseshoe Beach had water levels reach more than 15 feet above ground level.</p><div data-youtube-video=""><iframe width="640" height="480" allowfullscreen="false" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/oqhRd4azGbQ" start="0"></iframe></div><p></p><p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/09/Screenshot 2025-09-24 135851-1758744720273.png">Even places like Tampa, Florida saw storm surge rise to nearly 8 feet. St. Petersburg, FL set a storm surge record of 6.31ft.</p><div class="twitter-tweet" style="display: flex; justify-content: center" data-twitt-post-id="1839689737440841904" src="https://x.com/WeatherNation/status/1839689737440841904"></div><p>The aftermath of Hurricane Helene has unfortunately left scenes of devastation from Florida's Big Bend, the southeast, and Appalachia. 250 lives were lost during Helene. 176 were attributed to direct meteorological impacts.
